Community guidelines set some standard behaviors for the community interacting on your Facebook pages. It is designed to help your users to feel safe and free from harassment and exploitation when visiting our platforms.
You can set your Community Guidelines on your Facebook page in the ‘Impressum’ section. Note that the character limit is 2000 characters.
What Can You Add to the Community Guidelines?
1. Context: A very brief description of your Signpost Instance, for example:
- What does your page do?
- What kinds of content do you share?
- How do you ensure the accuracy of information?
- Any disclaimer you want to add
Note: This should not be the same as what you added in your page's ‘details about you’ section. The purpose of adding a few lines about your instance here is to contextualize what you are going to say in the next section. We can focus on a few things like what kind of content you share, how you ensure information accuracy, and if you want to add any disclaimer.
Example from Refugee.Info Italy Facebook Page: |
Refugee Info is here to serve every refugee in Europe with trustworthy, clear, and relevant information. The information we provide on this page aims to help refugees. We liaise directly with Governments and organizations across Europe to collect and verify our information. The information on this page does not reflect our personal views. We promote interaction and feedback, but please be aware that any obscene, offensive, or disrespectful comments will be removed, and those who post them will be banned from the page. |
2. Bullet Point of the Community Guidelines
Here you can set some standard guidelines for the community and outline what will happen if someone does not follow the guideline. Some common community guidelines are here, but you should always consider your context and adapt where necessary. Here are some ideas:
- This is a safe space. Any form of hate speech, xenophobia, racism, or homophobia will not be tolerated. Anyone commenting on hate speech or harassing other users will be blocked immediately.
- Treat other community members with respect. You never know what battles someone is fighting. If someone in the page/group is harassing or belittling you, let us know in a Private Message — we’ll do what we can to help you.
- We will not allow any discussion or promotion of illegal activity.
- Please don’t comment on any graphic or distressing content.
- Protect your own and other people’s privacy. Don’t post phone numbers, addresses, or links to other people’s profiles.
- Only post comments related to the page/content
