When working with social media accounts, it it important to take the necessary precautions to keep your accounts safe. Here are some guidelines:
- Create your account with your actual name: Facebook might ask for some identification documents if they suspect anything in your account. If your account name does not match your identification document, you may face temporary/permanent restrictions from Facebook.
- Use a strong, unique password: Create a strong password that combines uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters. Avoid using common words or personal information. Additionally, ensure that you use a different password for your Facebook account than you do for other online accounts.
- Enable two-factor authentication (2FA): Enable 2FA for your Facebook account. This adds an extra layer of security by requiring a second verification step, such as a code sent to your mobile device and your password when logging in. Click here to learn how to activate two-factor authentication.
- Be cautious of suspicious links and emails: Avoid clicking on suspicious links or opening attachments in emails or messages that appear to be from Facebook. These could be phishing attempts aimed at obtaining your login credentials. Always verify the authenticity of such communications before taking any action.
- Review app permissions and connected services: Regularly review the apps and services connected to your Facebook account. Remove any that you no longer use or trust. Be mindful of the permissions you grant to third-party apps and limit them to only what is necessary.
- Keep your device and software up to date: Ensure that your device's operating system, web browser, and security software are up to date. Regularly install updates and security patches to protect against known vulnerabilities.
- Be mindful of the information you share: Avoid doing any suspicious activities in the separate account, like commenting on many posts at a time, sending the same messages to many, etc. Be cautious about the personal information you share on your Facebook account. Avoid publicly sharing sensitive information, such as your full address or phone number, on your profile.
- Control your privacy settings: To control who can see your posts, personal information, and photos. Customize these settings according to your comfort level to ensure your content is visible only to the intended audience.
- Report and address issues promptly: If you encounter any security concerns, or unusual activities, or believe your account has been compromised, report the issue to Facebook's support team immediately. They can provide guidance and help you regain control of your account if necessary.
